princesses get their hands dirty, too
This weekend my sweet husband built me the raised bed I've begging for for so long.

And then I got busy and did nothing for four days.
And then this morning the girls and I finally planted!

Tomatoes, carrots, lettuce, sugar snap peas, zucchini and yellow squash will soon be coming to our very own front yard! In theory, that is. I'll keep you posted on how our garden actually grows.

Ooh, congrats at getting it in! I'm resigning myself to the fact that ours probably won't happen for this summer's veggies with all the other pressing projects...
Can't wait to live vicariously through your updates :)
Oh, I love seeing the pictures of your sweet girls! What did you put on top of the dirt-are those filbert shells?
They are cocoa shells, actually. The lady at Tom's Garden Center recommended them when I asked her how to keep our many neighborhood cats from digging in my garden. Supposedly they don't like the smell of the cocoa shells--they smell just like chocolate--and also don't like the feel of them on their feet. My veterinarian friend Meg has warned me that the cocoa shells can be very toxic if dogs eat them, though, so I guess I'll just have to warn anyone with a dog who comes to my house to stay away, and hope we don't wind up with dead stray dogs in our front yard...
Ahhh it looks like you guys had a great time planting the garden!
